Don't Let Your New Pool's Sparkle Fade: Expert Startup is Key!
Just filled your beautiful new pool or completed a refreshing remodel? Congratulations! But wait, the celebration isn't quite over. The next few weeks are critical for ensuring your pool's plaster remains pristine, smooth, and ready for endless swims. Neglecting proper care during this curing period can lead to problems like scaling, etching, and discoloration, marring your enjoyment before you even dive in.
At Dedicated Pool & Spa Service, we understand the importance of a meticulous swimming pool startup. One of Hi-Desert's leading providers, our expert team takes care of everything, so you can relax and watch your oasis come to life.
Why is a Professional Startup Crucial?

The surface of your pool can be comprised of many different materials including vinyl, fiberglass, plaster quartz, and many more. Each finished material has a detailed "swimming pool startup" procedure that ensures the finish cures and is set up for many years of use. After your pool is filled with water, our trained technicians will monitor the your pool water using the "LSI" procedure to prevent the plaster/pebble from etching or scaling. After compiling the results from the LSI, we will then add the appropriate of pool startup chemicals based on the water testing results.

1. Proper Curing is Critical:

-
Pebble/Plaster finishes are "water-cured" meaning they need water to cure and strengthen. The initial 28 days see 60% of the curing happen, impacting the surface's final strength and longevity.
-
During this period, the plaster releases minerals affecting water chemistry, particularly pH, alkalinity, and calcium.

2. Unbalanced Chemistry During Curing Can Cause Problems:

-
If left unchecked, fluctuating water chemistry can lead to several issues:
-
Scaling: Roughness and deposits on the pebble surface.
-
Pitting: Tiny holes or divots in the plaster, affecting aesthetics and potentially harboring bacteria.
-
Gray streaks/spots: Discoloration caused by imbalanced minerals.
-

3. Start-up Process Ensures Optimal Environment:

-
A proper start-up process involves:
-
Frequent water testing and adjustments: Especially in the first weeks, ensuring pH, alkalinity, and calcium stay within optimal ranges.
-
Specific chemical additions: Based on your water source and needs, certain chemicals might be added to aid the curing process and prevent issues.
-
Brushing routine: Gently removing surface dust from the pebble finish promotes proper curing and prevents scaling.
-

4. Benefits of a Proper Start-up:

-
By following a meticulous start-up process, you achieve:
-
A beautiful and durable pebble finish: Preventing the aforementioned problems extends the life and aesthetic appeal of your pool.
-
Balanced water chemistry: This creates a healthier and more enjoyable swimming experience.
-
Reduced future maintenance: Proper care during curing sets the stage for easier maintenance later on.
-

5. Warranty:

Manufacturer and/or builder will warranty the plaster and or pebble if a proper start up is not performed. Keep in mind there needs to be documented proof of water chemistry readings, chemicals added, and services performed in order for warranty to be enacted. Dedicated Pool & Spa Service is able to provide all reports with this information to protect your pool/spa.

6. Do & Don'ts:
Depending on the finish there are certain things that are not able to happen during the first 28 days. This can range from heating, vacuuming, etc.

The curing process applies to all new pools with plaster or pebble finishes. Remember, proper care during the initial period is crucial for enjoying a beautiful and trouble-free pool for years to come beauty!
